Ten Tips For Summer Skin || Oily Edition.

Summer is always the season of the year that I absolutely dread. It's hot, it's humid and it does absolutely nothing for women who wear make-up. It's even worse for us girls with the dreaded oily complexion as it makes the problem even more bother sum. On Saturday, for instance, my make-up became patchy and began to fade within an hour of applying it, thanks to this awful heat, so I decided to put together a list of what I know and give you girls with oily skin a few tips for surviving the Summer.....

  • Use the right products - If you have oily skin, don't use products with oil in them. It's that simple. You're not going to get anywhere by adding more oil to the fire. If you're not a snob and aren't fussed about brand names, pop into Asda and pick up their Young Skin's Matte Finish Moisturiser. It will give you a perfect base for make-up! Also, remember to use a product with a high SPF in it, too.
  • Use a make-up primer - This will help to prolong the staying power of your make-up and keep it in place. Also, remember to use an eye primer too! I'd recommend Nivea's Express Hydration Primer.
  • Blot away - Always carry a pack of blotting paper with you. Every hour or so, pop one out and gently press it onto any oily patches on your skin and it will absorb the oil right up.
  • Carry a powder compact - Women with oily skin probably do this anyway, but carrying a powder compact with you will give you the chance to give your make-up a top up when you're out. Powder helps to clear up any shine on the face and gives you a nice matte finish.
  • Use a setting spray - If you're not a fan of powder, buy a setting spray. There are a few out there that help to make your make-up last all day and as it is a lightweight mist, it will not disrupt your make-up!
  • Don't touch your face - Even if you're feeling sweaty and want to pat it away, don't do it! This will just transfer oils from your fingers onto your face and wipe away your make-up. Use the blotting paper instead.
  • Keep your hair out of your face - I know it's hard as we all like to have those 'just off the beach' curls in the Summer, but having your hair on your face will just make you sweat more, so pull it back into a cute fishtail or high bun.
  • Switch to a BB Cream - I know some of us can get set in routine of applying foundation, but sometimes they can be too thick to survive the Summer heat, so switch to a much thinner BB Cream. They aren't as heavy on the skin and with the new ones popping up containing Salicylic Acid in them, they are also good for the skin!
  • Lighten up - If you feel confident enough with your skin, don't apply foundation at all. Just conceal and powder. This way you'll be fine and you won't have to worry about your make-up smudging throughout the day.
  • Put down the highlighter - If you're going to get shiny anyway, don't put any added shimmer onto your face as this will just add to the mess. So put away the shimmer for the Summer as it won't help you at all.
I know how it feels having oily skin and it's not nice, especially in this horrible heat, so I hope these tips help you guys out! I didn't even realise I'd picked up all these tips, but it's just nice to have them in case the British Summer actually hits us like it has been!

Have you got any more tips to share?
